What Will Happen?
- Someone at the door will welcome you and, if it's your first time at a Quaker meeting, he or she will be happy to put you at your ease should you be concerned.
- You will be given a leaflet that will explain what Quaker meeting for worship is about and you are welcome to read this while sitting in the meeting room. The room is furnished simply without religious ornaments or symbols. A ring of chairs are set facing a table on which you will see a vase of flowers, a Bible and a copy of the Quaker book of Faith and Practice.
- We sit in silence that grows deeper as it progresses and we seek to open ourselves to the Spirit of God. The silence may be broken when someone feels moved to say something which will deepen and enrich our worship.
- At the end of an hour, two elders will shake hands signifying the close of the meeting. Notices are read out by the clerk and coffee or tea is then available to all.
